Made for LOWREZJAM 2022 in two weeks.

King Lothar of Castle Torsten has enlisted you to retrieve an ancient artefact: The Mask of Sar-Lakhmu from the abandoned tunnels under his castle. Many have tried and failed, but The King seems to trust in your skills. Along the way you will collect gems which grant you unique powers.

The original jam version's default resolution is 64x64, as per LOWREZJAM's rules, but you can optionally play with higher resolutions and textures turned on (shown in the screenshots). Post-jam, the default is 256x240.

Controls:

  • E - Interact (Open doors, chests etc.)
  • WASD - Move
  • Left-click - Attack
  • Shift - Sprint
  • Esc - Open settings menu

This project is pretty sloppy and unfinished. I wanted to do a lot more originally, and probably will continue making it after the jam. I have made a first area, with a boss battle, and started making a second area, just to preview the main enemy in that area.

Linux and Mac builds not tested.

Very interesting concept. It can be seen that everything was done for the jam, as there are several fields which would feel better being finished, but the overall concept is really fun. Despite repetitiveness, I am coming back to this game just to find out how to kill this boss :D If you were to take this project again and add new content, maybe some additional strategy to fight, weapons, I’d love to see that coming!

I'd definitely like to work on it in the future. I had a lot more planned for the game initially. There were meant to be 3 bosses, puzzles, lots more lore stuff, but for a 2 week jam it was too much. I'm working on other stuff at the moment, but I'll probably get back to this game at some point! I'll also probably abandon the low-res concept, 64x64 just felt too low and I think the graphics look a lot better at 256x256 (at least for the default). Thanks for the feedback. Other weapons shouldn't be too hard to add, a bow and arrow could be fun!
